Our Church barbecue has found it difficult to tread water for the past few years. Changes in lifestyle have been reflected in the number of people in the church who are able to devote the immense amount of time need to put on our tremendously popular barbecue. We will be working on perhaps being able to find a way to have some sort of an affair like this in the future. In the meantime enjoy our yard sales, green sale, and Chinese Auction.

Chicken Barbecue History

"Chicken Barbecue" has been in the calendar for the Baiting Hollow Church for 60 years. It started as a rather small affair for the purpose of raising money to put an addition on our church building. That it was a success, is obviously not questionable, as there has been a barbecue almost every year beginning in 1955. Since it is an outdoor affair and we do not have room to seat the 450 guests who come at one time, weather is a factor. God has been good to us, and there have only been a few times when it has been postponed to the next day, and only once have we had rain on both Saturday and Sunday. Almost all our faith family is involved in one form or another, whether it is selling tickets, turning the chickens on the barbecue pits or serving the food. It is a time of hard work, tired legs and feet, but also a time of fellowship and fun, not only for our faith family but for those who attend the BBQ. We often have live music for your enjoyment. The Good Will club has their annual “Chinese Auction “ at the BBQ. This is a favorite of our church family and guests.

It is great to hear people say "Your chicken barbecue is the best around". Some have gone so far as to tell us it is the best BBQ on Long Island. Now that is some praise!

In 2018 we took a vacation from the BBQ and are pondering how best to proceed with something similar in the years ahead.
